The song “12 Days of Christmas” is synonymous with the holiday season, and it’s no wonder why. It tells the tale of one person who receives gifts from their true love every day for a dozen, with each gift growing in number and stature. But did you know that those dozen days don’t actually lead up to Christmas Day but start on the sacred holiday?
December 25th is the first day of Christmas and goes to January 6th, which is known as Three Kings’ Day. The story was first written in a children’s book and somehow evolved into a song, but how and when is unclear.
As it turns out, the gifts given all symbolize Christian themes. For example, the partridge in a pear tree symbolizes Jesus while the five golden rings are the first five books of the Old Testament. Still, in our world, while Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ, there are plenty of people who celebrate that don’t subscribe to a particular religion.
We put together a fun way to incorporate the twelve days of Christmas into your celebration, and you can start giving them before the 25th or after. You can delve out these twelve gifts whenever you please. The idea is to channel the song, which we attempt to do with these easy to get gift ideas to celebrate the 12 Days of Christmas.
